How to reference PsychTests' tests

All of the tests are the intellectual property of PsychTests.com and are protected under Canadian copyright laws and international treaties. Violation of the copyright will be prosecuted to the maximum extent allowed under the law. However, we encourage the use of our tools and we have a solution for almost every need. In order to use PsychTests' tests for various purposes without violating PsychTests' authorship rights, please read carefully the information provided below.

General Information

Thousands of researchers, clinicians, and students use PsychTests' tests for research projects, presentations, papers, and for client evaluation. Because there is such a wide variety of usage alternatives, we have created options for each possible case.

If you are looking to use the tests for personal growth, visit Tests, Tests, Tests... The tests are scored online and in real time for your personal use.

If you would like to use the tests strictly for non-profit reasons such as academic, clinical, or research purposes, you are required to register the use of each test. To see if your particular usage requirement applies to this option, go to: Exemptions: Academia and Non-Profit". If you do fall into this category, proceed to the Registration Form.

Violation of copyright

The following acts are considered to be violations of the copyright, unless written permission has been obtained from the author:

  • unauthorized mirroring of the tests on the internet and/or intranet
  • unauthorized translation into another language
  • creation of another test that substantially paraphrases one of PsychTests' tests (plagiarism)
  • creation of an abridged version of a test without authorization and/or proper credit
  • usage of excerpts (other than expressing one's personal opinions) of the questions without authorization and/or proper credit
  • unauthorized electronic publication
  • unauthorized physical publication (including books, journals, newspapers, and newsletters)
  • unauthorized duplication (in print or on-line) of the forms and use of the tests for commercial purposes
  • unauthorized use in clinical research sponsored by pharmaceutical companies
Exemptions: Academia and Non-Profit

The acts listed below are exempt from the copyright restrictions with the conditions that: one of the main investigators (or the person who will administer/present the inventories) fills out the registration form AND that the source is properly credited (see How to reference PsychTests' tests)

  • academic research, including projects sponsored by governmental or private agencies
  • teaching or classroom presentations, including up to 500 photocopies per presentation/project
  • papers (student or scientific), including critical reviews and honours, masters and doctoral thesis
  • clinical use for non-commercial purposes
